A prime example is a recent story of 92-year old Mal Osborn.  Mr. Osborn received his Varsity letter jacket when he ran track and cross country  for the University of Maine from 1949-1952.  It was such a prized possession that he wore it for over 60 years, until he misplaced it in October. He looked everywhere, his family even stepped in to help him find it, but they had no luck.  That’s when his daughter decided to get the word out via Facebook. In less than 24 hours and 1,000 “shares” later, Osborn’s daughter received an email from a neighbor down the street.  She’d found the jacket in her yard under some leaves and she kept it in hopes that the owner would come looking for it. When the neighbor found out it belonged to Mr. Osborn, she had it dry cleaned before returning it to him.  Mr. Osborn and his family were touched by the outpouring of love and concern for someone they didn’t even know. “As challenging as this year has been, this has given us some hope” said his daughter. Mr. Osborn decided to pay the kindness forward by ringing the Salvation Army bell at a local store.
